Over the last 15 years in the industry, I have used close to 15 laptops of which 3 have been AMD powered ones while the rest have been Intel powered. The laptops have been from IBM, Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba, Fujitsu, HP, Dell, Wipro. One thing that is so distinctly different about AMD laptops is their longevity. While all Intel powered laptops turn sluggish or totally breakdown by the time the laptop is into its 3rd year, the AMD laptops proved to be a workhorse and worked just as new even into their 5th and sometimes 6th year.
Usage kills Intel laptops, while AMD laptops are discarded due to eventual obsolescence or plain boredom.
Advice to College students: This is something I always mention to youngsters who approach me with regards to laptop choices. However, given a choice, I prefer AMD laptops when I want to invest in a good laptop that should last me a 4-5 year period. It should be a true blue performer and not start slowing down 18 months into the purchase eventually leading driving you to a new purchase.
