Being a teacher is, like all careers, a choice you need to make. Teaching in developing economies like India is definitely not a lucrative prospect compared to other options available at your disposal. A reason why the best brains are rarely into teaching.
However, I forsake a 6 figure salary in the IT field to take up teaching 6 years back. I moved from the silicon city of India, Bengaluru to a sleepy little hamlet in central Karnataka. I started off teaching 3rd grade kids. To be honest, I have not regretted one moment of the time spent with the kids in various classes. The joy of learning, the constant attempt to try and discover new methods of educating kids, the ecstasy of seeing your efforts pay off, as written off kids turn a new leaf – all these make the job of being a teacher worth the small remuneration I take home.
