While I have witnessed several cases of pampered students in my teaching career, here’s one that really amazed me and has bothered me ever since.
A 12 year old boy pampered to no end because he is the only male boy in a join
t family comprising of his dad and 4 uncles. He is pampered so much that his notes and homework are completed by the girl children in the house. All of this is shielded in the guise of the boy being extremely sensitive.
Questions that have bothered me after getting to know this boy
- The boy has become so sensitive that he cannot digest the slightest criticism. Even if a teacher as much as asks him a question, tears swell up in his eyes. Who is responsible for this softness?
- Why is the girl child made to suffer? Why should a girl child, that too younger than the boy, be forced to write the notes that the boy is supposed to write? What kind of respect will the girls have towards their brother?
- What kind of a mentality will the child grow up with? Will he not develop a superiority complex especially in his interactions with the opposite sex?
