Quiz is a favourite among my students. They even prefer subject revision done in the form of a quiz.
Usually the four rows of benches in a class default to teams A, B, C and D. Once in a while to break the routine, the class gets the freedom to choose names. More often than not, such days see tussles among team members to pick a name. Everybody has a suggestion.
One such occasion saw the first team go with ‘Hebbuli’ – the name of a popular Kannada movie that had been released a short while ago. The second team adopted ‘Bahubali’, another popular Tamil movie that was breaking box office records.
Team 3 and 4 now started scouting for rhyming names. Team 3 settled on ‘Kabali’ – another Tamil movie that starred Rajnikanth – a popular South Indian actor.
The last team scratched their heads for a while and asked me for suggestions. I suggested that they could go with ‘Vili-vili’ -since they were struggling to find a name (‘Vili-vili in Kannada language describes ‘struggling’) and it would also rhyme with the other team names.
Half the class roared in approval !
Among the not so happy half was a village boy Pratap who stood up and suggested that he had a wonderful solution. He suggested that we name the four teams as ‘Rama’. ‘Krishna’, ‘Parama’ and ‘Hamsa’ after the famous mystic yogi who was Swami Vivekananda’s guru. The whole class burst out laughing in admiration at a unique line of thought.
